Anti-slavery campaigners marched through the borough to raise awareness of human trafficking yesterday.
Jason Strathdee and fellow volunteers from the A21 Campaign began in Westminster before travelling to Wimbledon station and walking to south Wimbledon and Morden.
Walkers had their mouths taped shut to symbolise the millions of slaves worldwide deprived of a voice, basic human rights, and freedom, they said. Mr Strathdee said: “It is to raise awareness of human trafficking.
“They think there are more people in slavery now than there has ever been.”
He said 2million children are exploited in the sex trade every year and 27million people across the world are in slavery.
Teams of marchers travelled to every London borough, with volunteers handing out flyers to members of the public.
The march coincided with international Anti Slavery Day on Saturday, October 18.
