A day after scaled down plans for a new greyhound stadium were revealed the chairman of an independent AFC Wimbledon supporters group has spoken out.

Simon Wheeler, of the Wimbledon Independent Supporters Association (WISA) said the group was excited to see the plans from the football club, which chief executive Erik Samuelson said will be revealed ‘very soon.’

Mr Wheeler said: "[The club is] acting professionally and in the interest of the supporters and the trust.

"Paschal Taggart’s offering is vastly inferior to what was proposed before.

"It sits uncomfortably what he is doing.

"He has spoken about this report, but it was commissioned by Hume Consulting - it is not independent."

Plans for a £100m greyhound racing stadium with apartments, a pre-school and a doctor’s surgery among the attractions, were unveiled exclusively to the Wimbledon Guardian by Mr Taggart.

The Wimbledon Guardian’s story has attracted thousands of readers, with a stream of comments and respondents to an online poll on the website.

Mr Wheeler said a new stadium for AFC Wimbledon at Plough Lane would mean the club was at the heart of the community, to benefit everyone, not just AFC Wimbledon fans.

Mr Wheeler said: "Some of the comments have been disingenuous.

"It is Paschal Taggart’s right to criticise AFC Wimbledon - we don’t want to get into tit-for-tat games."
