The public can now report pollution and sewer blockages or flooding directly online to speed up repairs and help protect the environment.

Even household leakages and other problems can now be logged from laptops or mobile phones using a new interactive map on Thames Water’s website, aimed at protecting rivers and streams in London and the Thames Valley.

Photos and videos can be uploaded with exact locations using the map, with boundary lines and property numbers to pinpoint precise locations.

“The sooner we can get to a problem the better,” Thames Water’s David Bird assured. “Time can be a crucial factor in turning a minor issue into a major one.”

The online map can also be used to check any planned maintenance work, including traffic and roadwork updates.

The software automatically schedules an investigation and arranges engineering repairs where necessary when problems are reported, followed by progress reports and updates.
