Stock car racing is back in the capital this Sunday with the opportunity to see two Series Grand Finals at Wimbledon stadium.

The first event of the evening is the Yokohoma Tyre Series final for the lightning rods where fierce rivals Jason Busby and Ashely Birkin will go head to head in their fight for the championship title.

The junior rods are also in action in Sunday’s other racing final, as their GT Cambridge series reaches a climax.

South London’s Jimmy Newbon takes a slender advantage into the race at Plough Lane with Freddie Walker and Mitchell Souter looking to upset the junior series leader.

All will not be plain sailing though for the title challengers with Dan Roots, 14, threatening to cause an upset on the night after showing exceptional form this season.

There is also a chance for fans to witness full contact racing as the bangers come to town.

After a lively start to their season, the title is an open contest with the series providing a handful of winners, rather than the usual suspects.

For anyone who has not secured their place for the banger world final at the end of November, this will be the last opportunity for the competitors to collect world qualifying points before the big meeting on November 29.

The final racing event will see the two litre stock cars return to Plough Lane for the first time since February.

This meeting will provide drivers, including Mitcham’s Colin Jones, time to fine tune their cars ahead of two big meetings coming up in short succession.

The racers will head up to Northampton Raceway to compete in the Midland Championship, before heading back to Wimbledon stadium to contest the Supreme Championship next month.

Turnstiles open at 4.30pm, with racing starting at 5.30pm.
