Surbiton men’s head coach Todd Williams has paid tribute to the contribution of former Team GB midfielder Rob Moore to the club.

The 34-year-old called time on a 10-year association with the club after agreeing a move to MHL Conference West Fareham earlier this month.

Moore, who played for his country at the London 2012 Olympics, first joined Surbiton from Teddington in 2004 and rejoined the club in 2011 after departing for one season at Wimbledon in 2010.

However, now it is time for Moore to face a new challenge, joining Fareham, who finished fourth in last season’s MHL Conference West.

“We are very sad to see Rob go, but we entirely understand his decision,” said Williams, who signed former German U21 international Robert Marx last week as a straight replacement.

“He has given the club great service over the years, even in the past couple of seasons when his family has grown and he has started a new career at Winchester School.

“Every player here has benefited from playing and training with Rob and the high standards he sets himself in games and on the training track.

“No better example of this was in the big games we have played over recent seasons where he would inevitably be in the best two or three players on the pitch.”
